Microsatellite-associated heterosis in hatchery-propagated stocks of the shrimp Penaeus stylirostris

چکیده
Correlation between DNA microsatellite heterozygosity and growth rate was investigated in two hatchery-propagated stocks of the shrimp Penaeus stylirostris, which had been genetically isolated from wild founders for 17 generations, and from each other for five more generations. Presumed demographic history of these populations suggested that they were maintained at small effective population sizes, and this was confirmed by significant changes in allelic frequencies Ž . between the two stocks. Despite a small sample size ns60 and a small number of loci screened, a significant positive correlation was detected between microsatellite tri-locus heterozyŽ . Ž . gosity and growth rate in one of the two stocks rs0.3, Ps0.02 . In the other stock ns48 , the positive correlation was not significant, but the combined test of single locus heterozygote Ž . advantage over the three loci was significant Ps0.005 . Use of DNA microsatellite markers, whose selectively neutral status is generally accepted, allowed us to reject the hypothesis of direct overdominance at marker loci as an explanation for an association of growth rate with heterozygosity. The average depression associated with one locus in our case is above or equivalent to the amount observed for a 10% increase of inbreeding in other species. These results suggest that heterozygosity at neutral marker loci is sufficiently well correlated with individual inbreeding coefficients to reveal a significant residual inbreeding load ) Corresponding author. Application of microsatellite DNA method in determining genetic diversity of farmed broodstocks of Penaeus vannamei (Boone, 1931) in hatchery centers of Bushehr province
The aim of this study was to detect different populations of Pacific White Shrimp (Penaeus vannamei: Boone, 1931) in farmed broodstocks and to determine their genetics indeces in hatchery centers of Bushehr province. First, the origin of the farmed broodstocks was determined based on the historical information of the different stocks. Then, DNA was extracted from muscle tissue of 30 broodstocks...

The aim of this study was identifying different populations and determining the genetic characteristics of three different sub-adult stocks of Litopenaeus vannamei in hatchery of Iran Shrimp Research Center by microsatellites DNA markers in Bushehr province during from October to November 2019. Up to 50 individuals were sampled per stock, with equal contribution by sex. The tissue preserved in ...
متن کاملPersistence of Penaeus stylirostris densovirus delays mortality caused by white spot syndrome virus infection in black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon)
BACKGROUND Persistent infection of Penaeus stylirostris densovirus (PstDNV) (also called IHHNV) and its non-infectious inserts in the black tiger shrimp, Penaeus monodon (P. monodon) genome are commonly found without apparent disease. Here, we introduced the method of multiplex PCR in order to differentiate shrimp with viral inserts from ones with the infectious virus. The method allowed us to ...

Marine penaeid shrimp are effected by approximately twenty viruses, the majority of which were discovered as a result of their negative effects on aquaculture. In the Americas, infectious hypodermal and haematopoietic necrosis (IHHN) virus and Taura syndrome (TS) virus have had a significant negative impact on aquaculture industries and, in one instance, on a commercial fishery. Both viruses ha...

The rapid growth of aquaculture is accompanied by increased discharge of nutrient-rich wastewaters into rivers and coastal waters leading to eutrophication and deterioration of water quality. Seaweeds are suitable candidates to reduce dissolved inorganic nutrient concentration discharged through aquaculture effluent, and can improve water quality and allow for sustainable aquaculture. In this s...
